Independent. Experienced. Strategy-first. Here's what that actually means — and how it started.
Long Financial Services was founded by Tod Long, who didn't come to financial services through a traditional path. As a University of Oklahoma track athlete and professional Nike sprinter, he built his worldview around a simple principle: outcomes are determined by preparation, sequencing, and the ability to perform under pressure — not by luck.
When a career pivot landed him in insurance and financial planning, that same discipline became his differentiator. While other advisors focused on products and closing ratios, Tod focused on the architecture of the decision. When do you take Social Security? In what order do you draw down accounts? How do you hedge against a tax environment that is almost certainly going to get worse?
Over 20+ years, those questions became the foundation of an agency built on one thing: getting the decision right the first time, because retirement decisions are often irreversible.
Long Financial Services isn't structured as a single advisor's practice. It's built as an independent agency — with the licensing infrastructure, carrier relationships, and standards to support additional advisors as it grows.
Every advisor who joins LFS operates under the same principle the agency was founded on: independence first, strategy before product, and a direct relationship with every client — not a call center handoff. That standard doesn't change as the agency grows. It's the reason the agency exists in the first place.
LFS advisors are not affiliated with any single insurance company or financial institution. That independence is structural — it shapes every recommendation made, for every client, regardless of who at LFS you're working with.
As independent advisors, LFS has access to products across the market. If the right answer for your situation doesn't exist, the conversation stays honest — not redirected to the closest available product.
Every engagement starts with a comprehensive look at your full retirement picture — income, taxes, timing, protection needs. The product conversation, if it happens at all, comes after the strategy is mapped.
You don't get handed off to a junior associate. Your advisor works directly with you from the first conversation through implementation and ongoing review.
Competed at the collegiate level. Built a foundation in performance under pressure, preparation systems, and the mental discipline required to compete at the highest level.
Represented Nike as a professional sprinter. The transition from collegiate to professional athletics sharpened the understanding of what separates preparation from performance.
At the suggestion of his father, Tod explored insurance and financial planning — initially skeptical. Working directly with clients and seeing real-world retirement decisions changed his perspective permanently.
Built an independent agency focused exclusively on retirement income planning, tax-free strategies, and protection solutions for pre-retirees and retirees nationwide.
Hosted a weekly retirement planning radio show based out of Oklahoma City, OK, covering Social Security, annuities, tax-free strategies, and retirement income in plain language across Oklahoma, North Texas, Arkansas, and Kansas — the precursor to The Income Standard.
The Income Standard has grown into the flagship education platform — a podcast now in Season 2, a companion AI-narrated series, and a published book — while Tod builds LFS into an agency that other licensed advisors can join under the same standard.
After Financial Fast Track Radio, Tod built The Income Standard — now the flagship podcast behind LFS's client education, currently in Season 2. Same directness, same mission: retirement income decisions explained with real numbers, not sales pitches.
The Income Standard is also now a book — How to Engineer Retirement Income You Can't Outlive — available in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle.
